Hi, international visitors. Thank you for showing your interest on this humble hut.
I feel very sorry to inform you that this blog is being operated in Korean only, but I hope you enjoy some pictures for your reference.
There was a name as God created the world. Let the name begin.
I'm (Mr) Hyeon-Jung "HJ" Yun. (sounds like "Hyon--Joong--Yoon")
I know it's pretty hard to pronounce, especially for those who are not familiar with Korean names.
To avoid this trouble, many Koreans like to use an English name like James, Rachel, and whatever, instead of Cheol-soo, Yeong-hee things.
I've also tried to adopt some English names before, like Theodore(my Catholic name), but only failed, because I couldn't feel comfortable to use it. For me, Hyeon-Jung is the one & only name that I can rely on all the time, and now I'm asking people to call me just "HJ."
One tip for Korean naming : There's no middle name for Koreans. Generally, a first name comes with two syllables, and a last name(family name) with one. For example, "Hyeon-Jung" is the full and complete first name for Koreans, and "Yun" is a last name. Mostly, Koreans tend to use a space between two syllables, instead of hyphen, which misleads foreigners to understand Korean names in many ways. I may write my name like "Hyeon Jung Yun", without a hyphen. In many cases, the first two syllables are believed as a first name, the last one as a family name. But it's not always true, because some Koreans, following the way they do in Korea, put family names first. (So complicate!)
OK, no puzzle any more, Here's a final answer: If you meet Koreans, just ask them how to recognize the name.
I was born at Seoul, the capital city of Korea, in 1977. My father was a office worker, working for an export company, and my mother was a middle-school teacher, teaching Korean and its literature. (She's still working!) I have one younger brother, who is a freelance photographer and working as an art instructor at a middle school.
Spending my whole school days with a bunch of studies and disciplines, I successfully entered University, majoring a law (of Korea). It's hard to say I was a good student who made great efforts to be a lawyer. Instead, I spent a lot of time in watching movies, reading books and doing whatever I wanted to but couldn't do at the high school. I can say it's my 20s that my interest in movies and plastic modeling grew.
Another breakthrough was a study in Canada. I'd stayed in Vancouver for 11 months (July 2002 to June 2003), preparing for a job opportunity and English improvement. By then, I'd never had an international flight (except domestic flight at the age of five). Getting along with international friends and facing multi-culture were definitely a great exprience to me.
In the winter of 2003, I got a job at Korea Export Insurance Corporation, which I'm still working for. Established and held by Korean government, my company aims to offer Korean exporters many trade finance products, which can, as a result, promote Korean export and international trades. I've worked 3~4 years for a foreign debt recoverty division, and moved to strategic and planning division in the summer of 2007. With many other vigourous and competent co-worker's aids, I was in charge of coordinating a company's business strategy and handling matters asked by Ministry of Knowledge Economy (what a ridiculous name it is.... formerly, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy) of Korea.
After two-year dedication to strategic and planning division, I was selected as business management student at UC San Diego, in full support of a company. During 6-month study in the US, I'm really enjoying my second chance to be a student and meet international friends, even in great expectation of my first baby girl on upcoming September 2009.
Likes: plastic hobby modeling (aircrafts), watching movies, traveling the places rarely touched, talking with animals, experiencing fascinating foods around the world.
Dislikes: bugs, rats, snakes, impoliteness, stinking to bad customs or conventions, extremists.
